About Us

Silvar Design was formed in 2004 by Mark Vardy. Mark, originally a micro-electronics engineer, made a decision to attend silver jewellery night classes and quickly found a love for all things made of precious metal!

Attending the classes for a number of years and also working on his own he soon had a good knowledge of the subject and as a qualified adult education teacher was approached by the college to run the course.

We opened a shop in 2006 in a little village called Wolstanton on the outskirts of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire. From here we sold everything you could want for jewellery making and we also ran regular workshops. Sadly due to a number of factors the decision was made to close the shop in 2016.

In October 2015 we started working with a new craft shopping channel, The Craft Channel, and we had a regular slot demonstrating jewellery making and inspiring the viewing public to have a go at it themselves. Unfortunately a series of problems hit the channel in late 2016 and they ceased broadcasting in early 2017. We appeared ocassionally on Hochanda, within their Jewellery Box shows, from February 2017 until February 2019. We can now be seen monthly within the jewellery destination hours on Create & Craft TV!!

We can regularly be found at bead fairs around the UK. See the show dairy for details of where and when we might be near to you.

In 2017 we opened a craft teaching studio in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. This studio has eight silversmithing benches, soldering facilities, rolling mill, enamelling kiln and lots of hand tools along with tables and chairs for other craft workshops.  We offer short courses and regular workshop sessions in an array of craft subjects.

In 2018 we were asked to work as guest tutors as part of the Supercraft Cruises team teaching on board cruises with actress and celebrity crafter Julie Peasgood.
